I can be bribed (on vehicle purchases)
The struggling Ford Motor Company thought I should test drive one of their vehicles and has promised me $75 for doing so.
Amen I say to you, I can be bribed.
So, found my way to a dealer Sunday afternoon and took the Ford Escape Hybrid out for a spin.
It’s a nice truck.
Amazingly quiet off of stop signs, as the batteries take over from the gas engine to get you up to speed.
According to Hybridcars.com, one could expect to get 28 miles per gallon using the four wheel drive Escape … probably better for the two wheel drive I took around.
Comparing the hybrid’s emissions to the Chevy Cobalt (they didn’t have the Cavalier I drive on the comparison chart), the Ford would pump out 1,775 less carbon dioxide a year than the Cobalt. However, the SUV puts out more soot per year.
Compared to my wife’s Vibe, the Escape Hybrid fares well, pumping 2,200 pounds of carbon dioxide less than the Vibe and half the carbon monoxide. At $3 a gallon, it might save us $300 a year at the pump.
When I get the $75 in the mail, I may be back to take a serious look at the SUV.
