wecansolveit.org: April Fools’

WASHINGTON, D.C. — After having a good laugh, Al Gore and the Alliance for Climate Protection admitted Tuesday that their new “we campaign” was actually a massive April Fools’ Day joke.

“To think that humans can solve global warming is preposterous,” Gore told reporters Tuesday.

Gore was joined by fellow environmentalist Newt Gingrich, who also couldn’t get over news stories hopefully reporting that their was a solution to climate change.

“What, we’re going to have a ‘Contract with the Earth’?” Gingrich asked rhetorically.

But, for those who dream of a future for humans, there is another green web site you can visit: wecansolveit.org.

(I guess the news that Mother Earth is about to put humans on permanent time out just hasn’t reached policy makers yet.)

Global Warming/Climate Change (aka Seasons) or whatever the new moniker is dreamed up is nothing more than hype. There is not a shred of scientific evidence to back it up, only computer models, which are subject to programming errors or outright distortions! The UN has just come out stating that temperatures will “dip” this year, not rise. There has been NO increase in the world’s temperature since 1998. What’s going to be the next hoax to attempt to redistribute wealth? What a SHAM!

Don,
Thanks for the comment, but the science says you’re dead wrong.

I assume you’ve read at least the summary of the IPCC’s work over the past 15+ years?

Please check it out, if you haven’t: http://www.ipcc.ch/

What about the 400 scientists opinions that you are discounting that say that Al Gore is exaggerating the effects of Global Warming and question that people might not be the cause at all?
Some feel that it is due to the sun, not people. Also, how do you explain that the gentleman that started the Weather channel finds no evidence to support what Al Gore is saying concerning Global Warming? I think the question to ask is “How much money is Al Gore and some of the others making off of all of this Global Warming? In the 1970s, people were saying that we are facing a mini ice age, now its global warming. Whats next??

Jane,
Are you attacking Al Gore, or the science?

Here’s an interesting piece on the attacks on Gore trying to obscure the science:
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/capitalweathergang/2008/04/freedman_gore_serves_accuweath.html

Also, what about the scientists whose work was discounted / watered down / legislated because the IPCC publishes a consensus? The IPCC is not sharing a “doom and gloom” worst case scenerio, it is publishing a middle ground that everyone involved in the process agreed upon.

Ever wonder why it is now ‘correct’ to say “Climate Change” instead of “Global Warming”?

Hmmmm…

Could it be that the Earth is NOT in fact warming?

Let those self-righteous people who call shortsighted those of us who HAVE studied the SCIENCE and know HCGW to be the purest bunk study the global climate data for millenia not decades.

Astronut: So what is this trend? http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/

That isn’t warming?

The government has finally found a way to tax something the comes out of our mouths every day we are alive. What a joke> We have had the coldest winter in years. So they say it’s global climate change. I think people need to wake up and look from all the people making money on the crap. Mercury light blubs GE Al Gore etc and all the people backing this farse. They cannot do anything but spend our money in stupid Liberal programs. Stop electing Dem Socialist!!!

Don, you are silly.

I’d rather pay a carbon tax than an income tax.

Why does the government penalize something that’s good — income, but allow something that’s bad — pollution?

dketterick is right Astronut, the trend located at

http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/

is clear. I say we should all change our ways by saving this planet. We are relying on 100+ years of data. If that isn’t enough to convince you, I don’t know what will. Nevermind the 4,53,999,900 or so years that weren’t taken into account when this data was put together

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_the_Earth

Those years don’t count because we have only been taking readings for 100 or so years. So to start solving the “global climate crisis”, I am cutting all gas producing foods from my diet and turning granola. This is interesting reading:

It is not worth commenting about when you see the likes of Al Gore flying around in his jet, using jet fuel to he3lp destgroy the climate??????

12 Kay Morgareidge { 04.15.08 at 5:43 pm }

No, it’s not global warming. Yes, we do need alternative fuels as quickly as possible.
When are you Global Warming Advocates going to stop brown-nosing Al Gore and listen to real climatologists and geologists. We are actually between ice ages. Our puny efforts on Earth are not going to affect the global climate enough to measure. Our heat, and lack of it, comes from the sun.
The sun has variable emissions of energy. Have you ever heart of flares and prominences? They are huge, sudden emissions that blast through space and affect radio waves, magnetic waves, etc. Long-term effects include weather trends, such as drought. These prominences erupt in cycles of 11 years, but more significantly at 22 years. And this has been known and accepted by scientists for generations.
Gore was just looking for an issue to hang his political hat on. He is no more an environmentalist than my dog. You who blindly repeat the global warning jargon need a new religion. That one has a false prophet.

Hi guys, glad you are so passionate about your side of things. I wish you would just read the IPCC report … and the article about attacking a person instead of his ideas.

For those who think the science is based on only 100 years of data — why is the IPCC report citing 100,000s of thousands of years of carbon data?

What do you think about Bush speaking out about global warming April 16th?

Why do you think most Fortune 500 companies want the government to step in and regulate carbon?

Finally, who hear actually watched Gore’s movie? Or, if you can’t stand him … did you read any of the books I’ve reviewed over the past few years?

Field Notes from a Catastrophe is a really quick read.

IMHO, you anti-science commentors might be right, in a way. This problem is larger than any humans have faced, so we might not be able to tackle it.

But, in my book, not fighting global warming is like saying “well, I’m going to die anyways, why try to have a life?”

I’ll keep fighting for effective global warming solutions … because I know it’s the right thing.

Cheers.

You can downplay or ridicule global warming all you want, but the scientific data is there: Since 1995 temp. world-wide were hotter than any time in the last 250,000 years! Besides, wouldn’t you rather have a plastic car that was safer, got 90 mpg & still go 0-60 in 8 sec.? Wouldn’t you rather have windmills on top of a mountian than have the mounain top chopped off to get to a coal seam?

15 Paul Erbe { 04.29.08 at 12:27 pm }

I agree the data shows warming and that we should take appropriate actions at all levels.

What I don’t seem to hear is a government/industry push for increased nuclear power over the next 10-20 years.

France has done this already and aprox. 80% of their elec. energy comes from nuclear. With proper security and breeder reactors, it is the ONLY energy whose raw material supply will NEVER run out! - and also provide the massive amounts of energy required by the first world and the emerging economies…We should fastrack Nuclear Now !

Economy/Jobs/Energy/ Environment…= NUCLEAR !
